I'm Jewel West, a dedicated yoga teacher, meditation and mindfulness guide, and Ayurvedic nutritionist. As a mother, wife, and nonprofit administrator, I understand the balancing act of life's many roles. My journey into yoga and meditation began during a challenging period of my life, where I was grappling with anxiety, racing thoughts, and overwhelming responsibilities. Through growing my faith in the Lord, exploring the practice of yoga and the mindful embrace of meditation, I found an oasis of peace, clarity, and profound personal growth.

These transformative experiences ignited a passion to share yoga's incredible benefits with others. I am honored to be an E-RYT 200, RYT-500, RPYT, TCYM-T certified teacher, constantly evolving as both an instructor and a lifelong student of yoga. My mission is to guide you toward discovering your own inner peace and strength, no matter your shape, gender, or age.

Offerings

What is Yoga?

Yoga is a Sanskit word that means to yoke or unite.

It is a mind-body practice that uses physical postures, breath control, meditation to harmonize the body and the mind. Yoga can be broken down into eight stages as described in the Yoga Sutras:


  1. Yamas or Restraints- actions to be avoided
  2. Niyamas or Observances-positive actions to practice
  3. Asana or Postures- physical postures to release tensions from the body
  4. Pranayama or Breath Control- brings the body and mind in harmony
  5. Pratyahara or Introversion- removing attention from external distractions
  6. Dharana or Concentration- bringing the focus of the mind to a single point
  7. Dhyana or Meditation- integrating the state of focus into the mind
  8. Samadhi or Oneness- effortless integration of the body and mind


Where other yoga classes' main focus is on Asana, physical postures, my preferred method of teaching aims at incorporating many of these other important yogic practices.
