“I have participated in several of Jewel's yoga groups. As a beginner myself, she creates an environment where I feel comfortable trying new things. I appreciate that her classes both challenge me and help me build confidence in my practice. I would absolutely recommend Yoga with Jewel- especially for anyone who has wanted to try it, but maybe feels nervous to take the leap.” – ST
“Jewel is a knowledgeable, encouraging, and patient Yoga instructor. She creates a warm, comfortable, easy-going, and joyful environment to practice Yoga. I am new to Yoga and I did not find it intimidating or embarrassing to be a part of her sessions. Her sessions are very well structured, and she maintains the classes' involvement with enthusiasm from beginning to end. I have finished each session feeling calm, positive, motivated, and yet relaxed! What a great stress reliever! Even though I am a newbie with practicing Yoga, I feel confident in highly recommending Yoga with Jewel! You won't leave disappointed!”- PF
“I had never done Yoga before and Jewel made my first time AMAZING. I was able to really slow down, control my breathing, and relax my whole body. For anyone who has never tried yoga and wants to give it a shot I highly recommend booking with Jewel!” -AA
“This was my first yoga class, and I didn’t know what to expect. Jewel gave great queues, and I enjoyed the class. I received a challenge for my body and a quiet, peaceful mind. I will attend Yoga with Jewel again!” -BW
Om (pronounced Aum) is a Sanskrit word and ancient mantra that is said to reflect the whole world and all of its’ sounds. When chanted, Om’s vibrational frequency is the same that is found in nature. It can lower stress levels, lower the heart rate and deliver a deep sense of connectivity.
When chanted in a group it can create a sense of unity and community. Chanting Om at the beginning and/or end of the yoga practice symbolically separates our time of practice from the rest of our everyday activities. Chanting OM is always optional and can be omitted. Bhramari breaths, or making a humming sound like a bee, are also options.
Always consult your physician prior to starting any new exercise program. You will want to wear comfortable, athletic style clothes that allow you to move freely. Yoga is practiced barefoot on a mat. By practicing barefoot, we are increasing stability, balance and proprioception.
During your first few in-person classes, mats and other props are available to borrow if needed, but I encourage exploring and purchasing mats and props that best fit your body and style. For online studio classes you will need a mat and any props you find supportive. Props to consider are yoga blocks, a heavy weight falsa blanket, a bolster or large firm pillow, a yoga strap, and (my personal favorite) an eye pillow to use during Savasana (resting posture) or meditation. It is best to wait at least 2-3 hours after a meal before practicing asanas, or postures, for optimal comfort.
I encourage trying a minimum of four classes to make an opinion on if yoga is right for you. It takes a few classes to settle in, find the flow, and to feel the benefits.
Please email your requested class date and time to yogawithjewel@yahoo.com or complete the Contact form on this website. All new students are required to fill out a waiver of liability. This applies to Karma classes as well. Yoga with Jewel will follow up with further class details, including links to Online Studio Classes. Let’s get it OM!
